BOUCHARD FINLAYSON 2013 GALPIN PEAK PINOT NOIR SCORES ONE OF ONLY TWO
PINOT NOIR 5-STARS
AWARDED BY PLATTER 2016
We are in a celebratory mood, following the announcement that our 2013 Galpin Peak Pinot Noir was one of only two Pinot Noirs to receive 5-stars in the prestigious 2016 Platter’s Wine Guide. In a salute to the terroir, the honour was shared by fellow Hemel-en-Aarde winery Newton Johnson Family Vineyards for its 2014 Pinot noir.
Bouchard Finlayson performed exceptionally well across the board, with no less than five of its other wines scoring 4.5 stars this year. Finlayson says that perhaps most noteworthy about this year’s Platter awards for Bouchard Finlayson is that historically it has been the Tête de Cuvée label which has carried the 5-star honours in the past. ‘Having Galpin Peak as our trumpet call from vintage 2013 offers an expanded opportunity for Pinot lovers to share in our excitement surrounding this vintage. There is no denying that weather conditions were challenging during the run-up to this vintage but great wines invariably emerge from vineyard sites offering cooler conditions. It is wonderful to share this achievement with our Tête de Cuvée 2012 which has achieved Gold at the London based Drinks Business Awards in February this year.’
GOLD FOR OUR TETE de CUVEE PINOT NOIR 2012 & SILVER FOR OUR GALPIN PEAK PINOT NOIR 2013
The Drinks Business held their Global Pinot Noir Masters blind tasting last week and both Pinot Noirs received medals, with one of them receiving a Gold and one of the highest scores in the whole tasting.
The Judges are notorious for being the toughest in the business with many wines failing to reach the medals at all so this was a fantastic result for Bouchard Finlayson. Tete de Cuvée Pinot Noir 2012 Gold (90 points plus) Galpin Peak Pinot Noir 2013 Silver (85 points plus) The Gold and Silver Medals in particular were extremely hard won, as the judges awarded very few high scores. Full results to be published in March. Proving the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley produces the greatest Pinot Noir
