Blending modern architectural lines with the classic elements of Cape Dutch architecture, The Homestead at Bouchard Finlayson stands as a striking focal point of this family-owned estate. The winelands residence of the Tollman family, owners of Bouchard Finlayson, The Homestead rests on a rise above the cellar, surrounded by lush indigenous gardens and offering panoramic views across the vineyards of the Hemel-en-Aarde valley.
Architect Anton De Knock created this modern interpretation of a classic Cape Dutch homestead as a reflection of the Bouchard Finlayson winemaking philosophy: embracing innovation while honouring tradition.
Through extensive research and with her unique sense of style, Toni Tollman played an integral role in shaping the aesthetic vision of The Homestead, guiding the use of local raw materials, artworks and furnishings.
In keeping with the vernacular style of Cape Dutch architecture, The Homestead is roofed with traditional thatch and centred on a central ‘great room’. From this communal gathering space, and the spacious courtyard, magnificent valley and ocean views dominate the horizon.
Beneath The Homestead is the remarkable vaulted wine cellar, used to host special events, unique tasting experiences and international visitors. In its unique architecture, with deep brick arches and dramatic lighting, The Homestead is testament to the talent, workmanship and expertise of South African craftsmanship.
