Bouchard Finlayson – Peacocks and more!

Keeping you in the loop!

The warmer weather is taking its time to arrive in the valley this year, while we are kept busy with the activities in the vineyard aimed at optimizing the conditions dealt to us thus far for harvest 2012 – at this point we are balancing out the number of shoots per vine in order to optimize the sunlight in the canopy for the ripening period which follows fruit set after flowering!

The soils are moist and there is life in the vineyards, with hares, guinea fowl, insects and the odd buck happily in harmony with our plants.  The Pinot noir’s flowering has come and gone and the later varieties will soon be in full bloom.   All in all a very exciting time, so much so that even the peacock could not hide his spring feelings and managed to clamber on top of the cellar’s roof the other day!  A beautiful sight on what was yet again a gorgeous day in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.

With the recent announcement in the 2012 Platter Guide, we are proud to be selling our five star Hannibal 2010 vintage at the tasting room, which is tasting incredibly smooth and full already. See below links for some recent news on the 2008 vintage, which is  for those who prefer a bit of bottle age – it is currently drinking very well!
